University College Cork, Department of Art History and the Digital Arts and Humanities programme
Student Biography
I am a Bantry Papers scholar working under joint supervision between the Department of Art History and the Digital Arts and Humanities programme at UCC. The overall project objective is to create a greater awareness of the archival material held by the Boole Library (UCC) and their research potentialities. The central theme of my project is to explore the activities of Richard White, 2nd Earl of Bantry, Lord Berehaven (1800-1868) as an art collector, and how these activities may inform our understanding of issues of style and taste in his role as ennobler of the family’s house and demesne, within the wider contexts of the Grand Tour and the particular events occurring in Ireland during this period. Under the Digital Humanities strand I am exploring how the use of digital tools are being used to enhance and improve the performance of traditional research activities and to extend the scope of dissemination beyond the traditional paper-based, hardbound thesis.
